Design an app that enables anyone, anywhere to chat with an expert in virtually any field to receive advice and get their questions answered.
*This project was completed as part of the "Immersion" section of my UX Certification coursework and acted as the major assignment.
Users of the Guru App need a way to talk to video chat with an expert in various fields because they want access to timely advice from experts that can have profound impact.
We will know we have succeeded when users participate in personable face-to-face video calls where they are given timely useable advice from experts.
An app that allows users to browse experts in various fields. When the user finds an expert that matches their needs, they will be able to book a video call with the expert.
Actio is a now defunct mobile and web application that allowed users to receive support from experts through daily free classes, workshops, group session, and 1-on-1 sessions. The experts available on Actio were from the general public with standard/general credentials.

The research was conducted via interviews lasting 15-20 minutes. Four individuals were interviewed ranging from ages 23 to 51, and all of the participants had prior experience receiving advice or mentorship from an expert.
1) To better understand user behavior around seeking advice and/or guidance from experts
2) Identifying user needs and pain points
3) Collecting data on the context and frequency in which users would use an expert app
4) Determine user behavior and attitudes about needing & receiving advice
1) It's important for people to talk to experts that they trust
2) Credentials and/or background are important when choosing an expert
3) It's important to have actionable steps on how to implement the advice (the how is equally if not more important than the what)
4) In order to give good advice, the expert needs to fully understand the situation
An app that allows users to browse experts in various fields and view the expert's profile containing the expert's background and credentials. When the user finds an expert that matches their needs, they will be able to book a video call with the expert. Before the meeting, the user will set goals for the session and pose questions that they would like answered during the session. After the session, the user and expert will collaborate to create "Next Steps" on implementing the advice.
Six moderated in-person usability tests were carried out at various locations.
1) Create an account so you can begin using Guru App
2) Search for an expert, then book a session with them
3) Add a method of payment to pay for the expert's time
All six participants were able to complete all the tasks asked of them; however, all of the participants needed clarification on the third task.
The average ease of use according to the Single Ease Questions 7-point rating scale of all the tasks is 6.16, meaning overall, the prototype is easy to use.
• The information on the Homepage is helpful & straight to the point
• It takes you from one step to the next pretty easy
• Easy to navigate
• Intuitive layout
Obstacle:
Users didn't know if they should pay before or after the session as it was initially not apart of the onboarding or session booking process; in addition, adding method of payment by going to the settings was not obvious. Intially it was expected for users to add a method of payment by going to the settings.
Solution:
Users are prom

Intially it was expected for users to add a method of payment by going to the settings.
Solution:
Users are prompted to add a method of payment as part of the process of booking their first session.
Obstacle:
There's one price to book time with the expert, but different time options for booking the session, so users are not sure how much they are actually paying for the amount of time they choose to book.
Solution:
The prices for each time block were added on the Expert Profile Page
Obstacle:
For new users, there would be no past or upcoming sessions on the homepage as they have not booked or had a session with a guru yet.
Solution:
For features that are not yet available to the user, add prompts and call to action buttons.
Obstacle:
Users don't understand that a major selling point of the app is the ability to view "Next Steps" after each session.
Solution:
Access to the "Next Steps" page was added to the Navigation Bar.
The overall improvements from the low-fidelity to high-fidelity prototype include using Material Design to declutter the navigation bar and provide a more familiar design for users.
Testing highlighted the need for easy, obvious access to major tasks, leading to the addition of a "Find a Guru" button to streamline scheduling, as no other functions are available until a session is booked.
User testing revealed that "Next Steps" was a key feature but unclear to users, so it was added to the navigation bar in the high-fidelity version.
Material Design was added to the Expert Profile Page. In addition, users swipe down to be brought back to the Expert Search as opposed to clicking the back arrow.
Guru is a mobile app used to connect users to experts in various fields via video calls to access timely, actionable, practical advice and next steps for how to implement the advice. The app is designed for those not just seeking advice/guidance and/or need a question answered by a knowledgable expert, but also want more direction on how to put that advice into action.
According to user research, many people are unhappy with the advice they get because it's more about "what" to do rather than "how" to do it. They get information but don't know how to use it. Based on this, a new problem statement and hypothesis have been created.
Users of the Guru App need a way to receive actionable advice and clear implementation steps from experts via video chat because they are frustrated with advice that lacks guidance on how to apply it. We will know we have succeeded when we see users check off all the steps from their session in the "Next Steps" page of the app.
We believe that by implementing a checklist interface that tracks progress on the next steps created during the session, the user will have a clearer sense of accomplishment leading to increased engagement and completion of all steps.
We believe that by creating a follow-up notification system that reminds users of their steps, they will be more likely to stay on track and complete their action plan, leading to increased engagement and completion of all steps.
